This week brings back another one of our listener favorites, the lick of the month! This month I give you something simple but effective in the form of an augmented V chord. This sound is one of the most classic throughout jazz history used by many of our favorite musicians. The good news is, it’s very simple to start using and it’s one of the most effective sounds out there. Enjoy the episode!

Hi Nick
A good episode, the augmented triad is a great device, is there a reason why you have just focussed in on the V chord? i tend to uss it just where i please and love the sound of the two stacked major 3rds – and don’t really worry about the scale degree as it will always resolve nicely

Hey Nick,
I try to focus the episodes on just one application per episode, only because they are so short and I don’t want to overwhelm people. You’re right though, these have so many applications! Thanks for the comment!
