My name is Nick Mainella and I started this website and podcast to help jazz students with quality instruction on how to become a better jazz player and improviser. I have been a professional saxophonist and educator since 2002 and have made it my mission to turn out as many students that have the same love for music and jazz as I do.
After I completed my Master’s Degree at Western Michigan University, I developed a large studio of private students and ensembles. Teaching the art of music is my passion but I decided that I needed to spread my message further than where I can physically be at any given moment. That is when the 10 Minute Jazz Lesson Podcast was born.
I want to make it possible for anyone, in any corner of the world, to quickly and easily gain instruction that will improve their jazz playing and improvising. Every person deserves quality instruction regardless of income and location. The beauty of a podcast is being able to learn useful information anywhere at any time. In the car, waiting for a flight, in the comfort of your own home, a podcast is like a world class, mobile university! Best of all, I’m offering these materials for free! Although, if you can afford it, we always appreciate a donation if you gain something from our lessons 🙂
The thing about a podcast that teaches music lessons, is that you have to take the time to learn the material carefully and most of all, practice it and put it into action! I pledge to all of my listeners that I will keep putting out quality content as long as you practice these lessons and make yourself a better musician. Music is one of the toughest disciplines to become proficient at and make a real part of your life. The beauty is, with enough work, anyone can do it.
Talent is overrated. Even the most talented musicians need to put in A LOT of work at some point in their lives. Practice is what separates the people who will never get on stage and share their music with the world, and the one’s that do so on a regular basis. The 10 Minute Jazz Lesson is here for you to become one of those people who feels comfortable and confident enough to make your dreams of being a performing jazz musician a reality. Whether it’s jamming with some buddies or going on a world tour, most people’s quality of life is enhanced with the addition of playing music.
This podcast will be dedicated to musicians of all ability levels and I hope to offer something of substance for everyone at whatever point of their educational journey they happen to be in. So dive into the episodes and accompanying PDFs, get to work, and become a better musician today!
