The 10 Minute Jazz Lesson Podcast

A Lesson On Stacking Chords From Russell Ferrante

June 2, 2016 by Nick Mainella Leave a Comment

This video is awesome. Russell Ferrante is a legendary musician and is the Pianist in the Yellowjackets. Here, he gets into stacking chords and some of the possibilities that come with creating more complicated harmony.

This lesson may be a little advanced for some of you out there but make sure you bookmark this and come back to it later. These skills are essential for every musician, not just pianists. When you play jazz you need to have some kind of piano skills regardless of what your main axe is. Especially if you want to compose or teach, these skills are essential.

Russell obviously makes this stuff look easy but don’t be discouraged if you don’t get this stuff right away or if he is moving too fast for you. Take your time and watch the video multiple times and see if you can latch onto what he is trying to teach us. Enjoy!
