This month we are featuring one of my favorite Trombonists, Steve Turre. This is his solo on the awesome Rhythm Changes composition, Chairman of the Board. Steve really has his rhythm changes playing together and the vocabulary sheet is where it’s at this month. There aren’t very many lines that I pulled out of the solo but the ones that I did are pure gold if you’re looking to get your rhythm changes playing together. Remember, along with the blues and Cherokee, rhythm changes are something that EVERY SINGLE jazz player must know how to do. Take your time and be consistent and you’ll be crushing rhythm changes before you know it. I have transcribed the solo in it’s original bass clef form, but I have also included a treble clef version for those who have trouble with bass clef.
Enjoy the solo and don’t hesitate to ask any questions!
